The Year Of No Shopping...
2023 was the year I aimed to add nothing to my wardrobe. But did I succeed?
Welcome to my first Substack! I have been trying to figure out a way to share my 2023 Wardrobe Freeze. I have too many thoughts to shrink them down to a Instagram Reel and TicTok moves to fast for me. But after reading a few Substacks I’d discovered by my favourite fashion industry experts, I feel like this could be the way to share what happened in 2023 (not the world issues, just my wardrobe issues)
Wearing my wardrobe at 2024 Melbourne Fashion Festival
But if you have just stumbled across this and haven’t heard of me, I am Jenna. I am a Slow Fashion Stylist living in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. I go by Ironic Minimalist on Instagram. Just as the words “Slow Fashion” imply, I am obsessed with anything to do with sustainable fashion. From where are clothing is made, to wear it goes, to want happens in between. I want to understand everything. I believe we overconsume and throw to much to waste. I also want to help other people understand how they can become a Slow Fashion Advocate within their wardrobe (its not buying the latest look from an ethical brand either). I often pop up at council green living sessions and share my slow fashion knowledge. You can also find me working at the Brunswick location of Mutual Muse. A local buy, sell, trade store where you can sell your clothing for cash (direct deposit) or store credit. A great way to keep your wardrobe in circulation and get a little reward back. I also regularly volunteer at The Clothing Exchange. A irregular event that is hosted by the local council where communities can swap their unworn pieces for a new look.
But back to the Wardrobe Freeze. I plan to share as regularly as I can. Next week's post will be about why I decided to do a freeze. It seems a daunting challenge for one who works with clothing day in, day out. So I'm really keen to share.
I would love you to follow along at we can get chatting all things sustainable fashion, my favourite subject.
Hi Jenna,
Thank You for sharing your thoughts! As mentioned, this is the year of my wardrobe freeze, having worked in retail and have plenty of fashion. Present thought is as the clothes are being brought out into the Melbourne seasons, how can a ‘dull’ outfit which is also loved be made vibrant?
Huge appreciation,
Evie 🙂
